When one thinks of knits a few different things usually come to mind: dowdy, matronly and boring amongst others but that’s not the case here. Scarlet+Atticus is a beautiful custom, handmade knitwear collection. Designed by Meagan Hightower who hails originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana one would ask how did a southern belle take up knitting? According to Megan she grew up watching her grandmother knit and took up the art herself at 17. After graduating from LSU she moved to the big city (NY) and began working in the fashion industry in showrooms and assisting stylists. With all of her experience she found there was a void as no one was making handmade designer knitwear. After spending an hour or two with her as she explained the process and features of her line I had to admit that I didn’t know any other designers that were doing what she was doing. Hence Scarlett+Atticus launched in October 2010.
The inspiration for this latest collection is a juxtaposition of the neighborhoods in New York City. The collection represents the sophistication and vintage sense of classic American beauty in t he Upper East and West Sides with the flirty and vibrant modernity of neighborhoods like Soho and the Lower East Side.
As I walked away with my new camel and red knit hat with the cutest little bow I have to admit Scarlet+Atticus has a new convert, moi! For your custom piece please visit http://www.scarlettandatticus.com/
