Crafted in true Wayans’ fashion, A Haunted House contains much of the slapstick humor of a modern day In Living Color. Co-written and co-produced by Marlon Wayans – his big brothers (and In Living Color alums), Keenan Wayans and Damon Wayans, must be so proud. This comedic horror spoof takes excerpts from the Paranormal Activity films, and adds all types of laughable twists to it. Surprised?
The story begins with a young couple ,Malcolm and Kisha, (Marlon Wayans and Essence Atkins), who’ve just moved in together. Malcolm settles into the house first and is very excited, but once Kisha arrives, things take a turn for the worse. They quickly find that they’re not alone. Apparently, Kisha has inadvertently brought a demonic presence into the house with her and later, becomes completely possessed. How could this be? She later confesses to having once made a deal with the devil for a pair of shoes – Louboutins to be exact.
In a desperate attempt to rid their home of the evil spirit, which appears at odd times, Malcolm and Kisha hire a few people. One is a priest, hilariously portrayed by Cedric the Entertainer. The priest is anything but priestly. They, also, hire a psychic who seems more interested in Malcolm than in finding the ghost. Malcolm and Kisha also hire a company to install an array of cameras to monitor the house and capture anything out of the ordinary. The cameras capture numerous funny bits, many of which involve Kisha and the couple’s maid.
SEMI-SPOILER ALERT:
At the end of the film, Kisha and Malcolm are in their bedroom, and Kisha seems back to normal. Although the film never shows the demonic spirit leaving her body, she seems alright, but not quite. What happens next? Well, you must see for yourself. Jam packed with silliness and serious “LOL” moments, A Haunted House is in theaters now.
