This year was the 41st annual ING New York City Marathon. The marathon falls on the first Sunday of every November in New York City. Athletes from over 75 different countries run through the five boroughs of NYC with a chance at winning some of the $600,000 worth of cash prizes. Whether running for cash, bragging rights, or personal fitness goals, this years race brought some of the Worlds finest runners to the Big Apple.
The winner, setting a NYC Marathon record, was native Kenyan, Geoffrey Mutai. He finished the race in 2 hours 5 minutes and 6 seconds! The 30 year old runner captured $200,000 in cash prizes. Mutai also attained first place status at this years Boston Marathon. The top female finisher was from Ethiopia, Firehiwot Dado. She finished in 2 hours 23 minutes and 15 seconds.
According to ING’s City Marathon website this years race brought over two million spectators and 315 million worldwide television viewers. Were you one of those million viewers???
