December 1st And 3rd Events Celebrate The 26th Edition Of The World In…Publication And Examine Predictions For 2012

November 14, 2011

New York, NY–The Economist will hold its World In 2012 Festival in New York City in early December.  The festival celebrates the 26th edition of The Economist’s successful The World in…publication, which contains a collection of predictions and trends for the year ahead.  The two-day event begins on December 1st with a gala dinner at The Angel Orensanz Foundation For The Arts and is followed by a day of discussion and debate on December 3rd at Cooper Union.  Alec Baldwin, George Stephanopoulos, Moby and many other notable figures in politics, business, sports, arts and more will participate in the festival.

This year’s gala dinner, which will be hosted by Emmy award-winning actor Alec Baldwin and chaired by The World in 2012’s editor, Daniel Franklin, will focus on global politics. Throughout the evening, leading political analysts will offer their opinions on the 2012 presidential elections in the US, and Economist journalists will comment on the presidential elections elsewhere, including those in France and Mexico.  The dinner will also include musical performances by Moby and DJ Spooky.  The festival will continue on Saturday with a day-long event on a wide variety of subjects. China’s power transition, the future of media and the world of sports are just some of the topics to be discussed. Both events are open to the public and tickets can be purchased at http://worldin2012.economist.com/.

“Like the publication itself, The World In 2012 Festival provides a terrific opportunity to look forward to the year ahead,” said Daniel Franklin, the editor of The World in 2012. “The speakers and the topics will give attendees a good sense of some of the world’s most pressing issues in a fun and informative way.”
