Nadine C (Dialect Magazine): Hello
Sarodj Bertin: Hi, Nadine
NC: Hi, is this Sarodj
SB: Yes, how are you?
NC: I’m fine. I don’t know if I pronounced your name correctly. How do you pronounce it?
SB: My name is (pronounced) Sir-Roj
NC: Ok. Sarodj Bertin. It’s a pleasure to speak with you this evening. I just want to introduce myself. My name is Nadine and I’m the Editor in Chief of Dialect Magazine.
SB: Okay.
NC: I know you’re pressed for time so I’ll run through the questions very quickly. First off, I want to congratulate you on being Miss Haiti and competing in the Miss Universe Pageant this year.
SB: Thank you very much. I’m so grateful and very happy about it.
NC: And, now that you’re days from the Miss Universe Pageant, how does it feel. It’s on Monday, isn’t it?
SB: Yeah, it’s on Monday, August 23rd at 9pm, you can see it on NBC. And, well, I’m very excited. Everyday, I wake up excited. Even though I don’t have a lot of time. I am very emotional because the contest is something that I appreciate, it’s something that’s worth a lot for me; and it’s going to have a lot of worth for my country also. So I believe that participating in the Miss Universe Contest makes me feel inspired because this is something that I really believe in.

NC: Exactly and I know it’s a very special event for Haiti and Haitians because the last time Haiti was represented in Miss Universe, I believe it was 21 years ago so this is a big deal.
SB: Yeah, exactly, they say that they are very proud of me but I just want to work for them and I’m gonna make them feel prouder because I’m here to represent my country, I’m not here as Sarodj Bertin right now. I’m all Haiti, you know?
NC: Well, I’m personally glad because I happen to be Haitian American. I’m extremely proud of you and I’m excited.
SB: Thank you, I didn’t know you were Haitian. I’m so happy.
NC: On August 23rd, me and my staff will be in front of the television and rooting for you. We’re extremely excited.
SB: Thank you very much; I’m really excited now that I know that you’re Haitian. I haven’t seen many Haitians here in Las Vegas. It’s good to know that everyone is supporting me and I feel very special and I’m doing all my best. I’m going to do all my best in all the contests on the 23rd. And of course, I will ask you all to vote for me.
NC: Definitely. Definitely, it’s also very good because recently in the news, everyone knows, there have been a lot of sad stories with Haiti because of the earthquake so it’s very refreshing that something like this is happening.
SB: It’s something that we should be happy that is happening to us now because after the earthquake everyone helped Haiti but they already forgot, you know?
NC: Exactly.
SB: So now everyone’s forgotten Haiti. We still need help. We still need to rely on the international community because we need to go forward, together, all over the country.
NC: If you do win, and I’m going say, you are going to win, what is the charity or what’s the cause you want to bring to the light.
SB: Okay, well one of the things that I care more about, that has more concern for me is the children that [don’t] have families. I really think children are our future and, in fact, in Haiti we have more than 1 million children that have lost their family so I’m always asking everyone to help by helping these children, giving them a new home, giving them education that will help the country because after 10 years, after 20 we will have all these professionals.
