The CultureNOW app transforms New York City into one big apple museum. This application is great for tourists, commuters, pedestrians and bikers.
CultureNOW grew out of the desire to preserve the cultural experience in NY specifically following the events of 9/11. Volunteers within the Cultural and Historic Resources Committee of the New York New Visions Design Coalition for the Rebuilding of Lower Manhattan, American Institute of Architects New York Chapter and the American Planning Association, NY Metro Chapter were the forces behind the idea.
In 2002, committee created maps of different areas of the city and gave out thousands for free. They worked on a 2nd mapping project in 2004. Physical maps, online images, and podcasts took the idea to another level. In 2005, Harlem was included in the 3rd mapping project.
“CultureNOW dedicates itself to celebrating our vast cultural environment as a gallery that exists beyond museum walls through cultural tourism and arts education.”
