Once, a long time ago, there were pockets of people who believed in a generally agreed-upon consensus of what looked “good,” and what did not. People indigenous to a certain region understood what a mate, and their society, would find attractive. Though the opinions varied greatly from one set of peoples to another, no two groups had the availability to interact, and influence what each society deemed beautiful.

Times have changed drastically, of course. Now, people of any age, race, or sex have the ability to view how people on an entirely different continent think, eat, dress, and behave. Cultures intermix, and while some might find that concept to be frightening, others have embraced change.
One of the most profound impacts global intermingling has had on the world is in the realm of beauty. There are very few pockets of isolated peoples anymore, which means that, when going for fashion inspiration, a person from any region has all of humanity to draw ideas from.
We have snapshots of inspiration from the Kabuki actors of Japan, the Lowland peoples of Scotland, the Bushmen tribes of Africa, and the grunge culture of Seattle, North America.
There is one particular group of people who have started to shake up their age-old perception of beauty the most, and they just happen to be the most populous race on the planet-the Asian demographicThough the Asian people consist of several offshoots-the Laotians, the Japanese, the Cambodian, etc., the sum total of these peoples have been heavily influenced by Western culture. Western music, clothing, customs, and food have trickled toward the East, and vice versa.
But there is a revolution that Asians are considering that is inclusive-with the advent of technology, Asian people are having a procedure done that mimicks the Western appearance-eyelid surgery. The procedure is called Blepharoplasty, and it involves making another crease in the eyelid of an Asian person that has a single eyelid crease. Women find that the procedure makes it easier for them to apply makeup.
Only half of Asians are born with a single eyelid, but for those that are, “It is the most popular form of cosmetic surgery among those of east and southeast Asian background.” -Wikipedia.
Out of such a large demographic, the fact that eyelid surgery has remained the top elective surgical procedure taken place in all Asia, by both males and females, is a huge cornerstone in how beauty in one type of people translates to an entirely different culture.
