Tribal inspired trends have been going strong since last spring. These prints and patterns will continue to be staple fashion pieces going into the following winter months that lay ahead. As a homage to Navajo prints, many of these pieces include geometric shapes incorporating the core red, blue and yellow hues that help define this culture’s arts and beauty.

The Navajo People inhabit Arizona, Utah and New Mexico aiding in the Southwestern feel of most of these articles of clothing. According to NavajoTextile.com, it’s believed the Navajos learned to weave from the Pueblo Indians around the mid 1600‘s. The site also states the Navajo textiles were composed of wool dyed with imported Indigo, yellow dyes from native plants, and imported red woolen cloth, giving the woven pieces their signature colors.

Along with these signature primary colors, designers are incorporating vibrant turquoise beading and this distinctive shade to line the symmetrical shapes found on the pieces. Pieces like the dress below from anthropologie.com are a great example of how the geometric patterns and colors that make up the Navajo look can be transformed into a modern cocktail dress that can be worn throughout the holiday season.
