The Material Girl herself is launching her first ever fragrance. The Queen of Pop is teaming up with fragrance powerhouse Coty to create the perfume, which will be called Truth or Dare, and will be the first of many lifestyle products under Mo’s Truth or Dare label.
According to Madonna, “My oldest memory of my mother is her perfume. I carry it with me everywhere. She always smelled like Gardenias and Tuberose, an intoxicating mixture [that was] feminine and mysterious. I wanted to re-create this scent, but with something fresh and new about it as well. Something honest and yet daring-hence the name Truth or Dare.”
I don’t know about you but every time I take a whiff of celebrities’ latest “new and innovative” perfume there is just something that smacks of synthetic. They are all different, yet somehow all exactly the same. I love Madonna, and truthfully have my entire life. I loved her as a three year old listening to Like A Virgin with my then fifteen year old sister. I continue to love her now as a thirty one year old woman. I grew up with her and have eagerly gulped down every album she has ever made.
I want to see this woman succeed even though she already has. I really hope for her that she can make this celebrity fragrance thing happen. Gardenias and Tuberose sound like a great start to me in a Marc Jacobs kind of way. Let’s just hope that the “new and something fresh” she is adding to it doesn’t make it boring, predictable and synthetic, which is hands down the death of celebrity fragrances.
