The injustices that women have faced and continue to face are unspeakable. The injustices that Black people face and continue to face are deplorable. Each hold complex social, historical, psychological, and economic consequences that have been at the center of hundreds of years of debates, laws, prejudices, conflicts, stereotypes and more. The mutual inclusive nature of the struggle of the Black woman makes it more complex and more intense.
From civil rights to suffrage, from slavery to sexual exploitation, from royalty to inferiority, from the Motherland to the Founding Fathers, from strength to invisibility – Black women have felt the pain. I dare say that Black women can empathize with the pain of every other race and gender in ways that every other race and gender cannot relate to them. How is that? They’ve been dealt harsh of blows from all angles.
We can get into why Black women seem to be synonymous with the word ‘strong’. We can explore why they boast confidence despite being treated as if they’re the bottom of the totem pole in our society. We can get into a gamut of stereotypes and images about Blacks, about women…about Black women but I think you get the point for now.
Black women, in essence, are a combination of the pains of all humanity and a strong foundation to all of humanity. That’s why Black Girls Rock.
