America’s favorite canvas sneaker company is on the move, expanding their product offerings. The resort collection was available Black Friday in Opening Ceremony stores and on the website. Women’s Wear Daily, (WWD), describes the line as ‘basic understated and faintly preppy; all descriptive of the 95 year old sneaker company. The collection features sweaters, pants, skirts, dresses, and jackets, retailing from $48.00-$400.00. The line will be offered in specialty stores and high-end department stores for the spring.
To help create buzz for the 95-year-old staple’s newest project, 40 bloggers will be allowed in the showroom, to style looks they will later blog about. During the Art Basel in Florida, Keds will hold a pop-up shop in the Vogue Lounge at Sagamore Hotel in Florida.
Inspiration for the collection was drawn from American style icons that have worn Keds over the past 100 years. The brand’s current focus is merging apparel with their already successful sneaker brand. The looks are loose and comfortable and embody all things cool. Familiar faces of the brand, past and present, include Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Onassis, Kristen Stewart, and Natalie Portman.
A fun fact about the brand: in 1917 a Keds ad referenced how sneakers allowed wearers to sneak up on unsuspecting friends. The brand had a hand in bringing the word sneaker to life. From canvas to clothing, Keds is becoming an American lifestyle brand.
