It used to be embarrassing to shop at the thrift store when I was a kid but now I love it. Thrift stores offer much more than any department store can offer. You shop the look for less and recreate old styles.

Let me tell you how.

  • Go online and Google your area thrift stores and find out when they have their sales.
  •  If you’re able to use early Saturday as your day to thrift, it is amazing what you will find!
  • Always have a cleaner on standby because you will need it.

I have been very successful in my years of thrifting. The sales are great.  You buy more for a whole lot less. I’ve purchased everything from authentic Louis Vuitton bags, furniture, designer wool coats, clothing and much more.  So many current trends have been duplicated by pieces purchased from second hand stores. The other day, I met a local fashion designer and artist at a thrift shop. She makes recyclable pieces purchased from her thrifting excursions.

I, also, like thrift stores because a lot of them give back to the communities. Take Goodwill, for instance – they help people get back get back back on their feet and on the right career path by providing employment training.  By thrifting you can look fabulous, save money, AND lend a helping hand in the career advancement of someone in your community.

Some thrift shops, also, offer a tax deduction when you make donations. There are so many reasons why you should thrift shop at least try it. So put your pride aside and get thrifting. You know the saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Trust me you will love it.
