It has been announced that Ghana will hold its first ever Ghana Fashion & Design Week (GFDW). The three-day event will be the most innovative and the first of its kind to take place on the global fashion calendar in Accra, Ghana. As with most of the countries in Africa, current political matters are more of a concern than fashion. That is not to say there is none, in fact quite the opposite!
The launch of the first Ethical Fashion platform in Ghana’s theme for the year is–ETHIKHA™ . The three-day international fashion and educative seminar event is scheduled to take place in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, the 5th -7th of October 2012 at the Moevenpick Ambassador Hotel. This year’s event aims to empower Ghanaian designers, by showcasing their contributions to the industry and branding Ghana as a global player in culture, fashion, and tourism.
GFDW has launched its new official website in preparation for the event, http://www.ghanafashiondesignweek.com/. The newly designed website is essential to all things Ghanaian fashion in regards to information relating to the upcoming event. Designers, models, press, buyers, sponsors, and the global audience will be able to access quality information relating to the GFDW event.
This is a major step forward for the Ghanaian fashion industry. Designers in this area need to be supported and showcased just as in other fashion driven areas. GFDW vision is reinforcing its already powerful message, an aim to develop and educate creative talents in Ghana through its mentoring platforms. This is one powerful positive step for designers of the area, in a very fashionable heel.
