Music Review | Trust and Believe by Keyshia Cole

Keyshia Cole “Trust and Believe”

You pushed me far…you brought me to this
You had my heart…but then you blew it
And I’m so over you, go get lost
Boy who do you think that you are

Trust and believe me, you’re gonna need me
Trust and believe me, she’ll never be me
And I’m so over you
Go get lost
Boy I don’t know Who do you think that you are?

True words of a woman scorned, belted out by none other than Keyshia Cole. “Trust and Believe“ serves as the 2nd single from her long anticipated, 5th album, “Woman to Woman”.

The Grammy-nominated, reigning Princess of Hip Hop Soul uses her soprano style vocal range to deliver this heartfelt ballad which reflects upon her position of being cheated on by her lover with her best friend. With a vibe reminiscent of a modern day Mary J. Blige, the song shows the true premise of the album which helps ladies to deal with the men who’ve done them wrong.

Written by R&B duo the Righterz, the single premiered on the singer’s official website on October 2, 2012. On November 22, the song debuted at #14 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs Chart and #39 on their Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs Chart. If you believe that those results are final, think again, because it’s still climbing!

Did I mention what a tearjerker this song is? Ms. Cole admitted herself in an interview that she cried the first time that she heard it. Each verse releases heart wrenching pain in a soulful and melodic way. Honestly, if you love “Trust and Believe“, then surely you’ll want to sample others just like it. Of course there are some club bangers too (“Enough of No Love“, featuring Lil Wayne) Ms. Cole is hardly one to displease, so don’t just sit there! Grab “Woman to Woman” immediately!
