The Marvel Universe strikes again! Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a box office smash earning a whopping $96.2 million this past weekend.

Based on the popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941, Marvel’s “Captain America the Winter Soldier, features many dark undertones about trust, betrayal and friendship. The film also explores the disheartening feeling of not knowing who to trust, and the discomfort of not trusting anyone,

The film follows Steve Rogers, a.k.a Captain America (Chris Evans), after a New York City escapade with The Avengers. He is now living in Washington, D.C. where he’s trying to adjust to modern times.  Upon receiving word that a fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. friend and colleague had come under attack, Rogers becomes tangled in a web that threatens to put the world in extreme danger.

Joining forces with the Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson, Captain America goes on a journey to expose a growing collusion while fighting off the countless assassins sent to eliminate him.

When the devious plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow welcome the help of a new ally, the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). They soon find themselves up against an unexpected enemy, the Winter Soldier.

Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, the film showcases Captain America’s good heart, when he shows a counterpart of how America should behave.

The chemistry between by Evans and Hollywood siren, Scarlett Johansson is compelling, although not predictable.

Other Standout performances are given by the good-natured Sam Wilson, a traumatized veteran; Falcon, nicely portrayed by Anthony Mackie; Samuel L. Jackson’s triumphant return as Nick Fury; and Robert Redford (Alexander Pierce), a seemingly sincere turncoat.

Sebastian Stan’s performance as the Winter Soldier is, also, riveting. He appears during an assassination attempt on Nick Fury. Throughout the film, he’s a silent killing machine who appears only when the heroes is seemingly winning.

Captain America: the Winter Soldier intertwines life lessons with mind-blowing action scenes, making it one of the best action thrillers of the year.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is in theaters now.
