Eighteen year old Karishma Dhawan of Healthland School (in Hounslow, London) won the annual “Radley Design Your Own Pocket Bag” competition. It was a competition to design a limited edition handbag for designers, Radley.
The bag features a dog walking amongst falling leaves with the words “That was just a walk in the park” written on the bag. Although designing your own handbag is not a walk in the park wearing one is.

I had a chance to interview another handbag designer from Bridgeport, CT – Shari Jackson. She had a dream about a bag with peacock feathers and diamonds. Although she never made that particular bag she managed to create numerous otherone-of-a-kind bags. Without knowing how to use a sewing machine, Jackson learned. The birth of her unique handbags began in 2003. She didn’t get her foot in the door by entering a designer handbag competition, however she managed to market herself via independently owned stores and boutiques.
Jackson is also a fashion stylist. Not only can you walk through the park with a handbag made just for you but you will also look fly doing it. Shari enjoys thrift shopping which means she stays fly on a dime.
