Brooklyn Film Festival tickets on sale now, opening night this Friday, through June 9

We will be covering the Brooklyn Film Festival (BFF) this year!  As a Brooklyn girl who migrated to the Bronx, I always love an excuse to visit the borough of my childhood.  The full schedule to the MAGNETIC-themed line-up is now available online. Clear your calendar from May 31 through June 9 to trek to Williamsburg at indieScreen (289 Kent Avenue) and Windmill Studios NYC (287 Kent Avenue).

Purchase tickets at http://www.brooklynfilmfestival.org/tickets/.

If you’ve been to the festival before, you will be experience a couple of familiar events: the BFF Exchange and the 9th annual kidsfilmfest.  Moreover, the festival will have a new and special event,  Brooklyn Meets Spain, a partnership with Mecal, International Short Film and Animation Festival of Barcelona.

I’m looking forward to the BFF Exchange project, which launched last year, and is free and open to the public, from 10:30 a.m. till 4:30 p.m., followed by a happy hour, staged at indieScreen. If you are a filmmaker, this event is for you.  You will have the opportunity to learn from, network with, and get this – pitch to experts including reps from POV and Sundance.   The Exchange will also feature a presentation by Kickstarter on how to use their platform to fund your film.

The film lineup starts at indieScreen on May 31st (8pm) with the 106 min. world premiere of HAIRBRAINED, directed by Billy Kent, about a 14-year old genius/outcast, Eli Pettifog, attending Whitman College after a rejection from Harvard.  He forms an unlikely bond with his middle aged dorm mate and avenges his rejection through his school’s Collegiate Mastermind Team.  A series of events throw Leo’s collegiate world upside down including love, friendship and a rag-tag family.

There are quite a few films with a cultural angle such as Hank and Asha (modern love story, an Indian woman studying in Prague and a young New York filmmaker begin an unconventional correspondence), Giraffes (Three young flatmates seek their footing in today’s Cuba, where you must fight for a home of your own), Flying Blind (A passionate post-9/11 love story: an older woman with a young Muslim man in a world where security is paramount and nothing is what it seems), and more.  Full lineup:  http://www.brooklynfilmfestival.org/films/2013/index.asp.

Shell Beach

Shell Beach extends for approximately 90 miles, along the northwestern coast of Guyana.
